Don-Dom’s Salted Egg Shrimp

My family loves to try and experiment new foods that will really satisfy our cravings. And may I present to you our own version of salted egg shrimp, the Don-Dom’s Salted Egg Shrimp. It is named after my two die hard fans, because for them I am the best chef in town. haha.. Just give them the credit of calling me that name. I really love to cook food for them. Whatever they like, I give it a try and sometimes I nailed it, sometimes not. Anyway, at least they are still there cheering whenever I cook. 

So, let’s get started. Take a look at the photo below, 

As seen in the photo, the main ingredients are there: 1kilo shrimp (I cleaned and removed the sharp parts of the shrimp), tomato (cut into bits), garlic (chopped), chili (cut into bits, if you have bell pepper, add it), 3 salted eggs (crushed), butter (2 tablespoon), oil (I used canola oil), black pepper and salt to taste.

Now, we are ready to cook. 1. Cook the chopped garlic in a 3 teaspoon oil until near near color brown, 2. Add the shrimp in the pan and cook for 10 mins or until it turned color orange, 3. Add the other ingredients, butter, tomato and salted egg mixed it evenly, 4. Add the chili or bell pepper, 5. Add the black pepper and salt to taste. Take note, taste it first before putting salt, because some salted eggs are really salty, so it’s up to you if you are still going to add salt or not, or maybe just a bit. After 5 mins turn the fire off. By the way, I am using Neoflam cookwares and La Germania gas top, I really love my cooking partners.

If you are craving for fluffy bread, cakes and pastries, Chef & Baker is a must-visit place. Luckily, I happened to find where their shop is located. It is located at Citrine Building along Magsaysay Avenue, Naga City in front of Bob Marlin Restaurant. 

Chef & Baker has many delicious breads and cakes to offer. I have tasted several of them and I can honestly say that you will be asking for more especially their creamy ensaymada. They have this box of assorted cookies, if I can still recall and if I am not mistaken, there are butter, cinnamon, coconut flavors. 

Their shelves are full of yummy pastries to choose from. So come and visit Chef & Baker and you will surely be delighted by their products.

Vegetable Lumpia at SM Supermarket

SM Supermarket is always on top of our destination when buying our grocery needs. They have almost everything that we need from dry goods to fresh products. And they have a cooked food section where we can buy roasted chicken, turon, vegetable lumpia and others. We bought vegetable lumpia and we noticed that it was already packed in individual box. I was delighted to see that kind of presentation. At least when we reach home to eat our lumpia, it is still in good wrapping condition. Good job SM Supermarket. Just keep on improving your products and services for your costumers and we really appreciate what you are doing. 😊😊😊

Visiting Naga City is really a remarkable experience. You got to experience a simple yet urban life. There are many churches to visit. And what most people look for, there are a lot of restaurants to dine in to.

At Robinsons Place Naga, you can check out this restaurant who serves deliciously good food. At the al fresco of Robinsons place, 2nd level, you can find CHEF MAMA. It was our first time to eat at Chef Mama. The food was great, you just have to wait for quite a while to enjoy your meal.

No-Meat Dish: Saucy Tofu n’ Mushroom

In time for Lent, I have here a home-cooked meal that is very much applicable during this season. I know most of us Catholics observe the ‘No-Meat’ diet during designated days of Holy Week. Some strictly follow this diet by not eating any meat during Fridays throughout the season.  So in order not to lose your cravings for delicious food, here is a delicious no-meat meal for you my dear readers.SAM_7949


4 tofu block

1 small can of sliced mushroom

½  pack of mushroom gravy

1 medium-sized garlic

1 big red onion / white onion

¼ cup soy sauce

1 teaspoon of salt

1 tablespoon of sugar

½ cup water

1 pinch of Black pepper

It is very simple. Just sauté chopped garlic in a pan. Then add the mushroom. Cook until golden brown. Next add the already fried sliced tofu. Add ¼ cup of soy sauce, salt and black pepper. Dilute ½ pack of mushroom gravy into 1 cup of tap water. Pour the mushroom gravy mix. Then add the sliced onion. Add sugar and seasoning to taste. Boil for 5 minutes. You can also add bell pepper. Then serve.

As simple as that, now you have a ‘No-Meat’ dish. And for those who are taking extra consciousness on their health, this can be a good meal without depriving yourself from eating delicious food. Try this at home. Have a nice day always my dear readers!

50th Year of Atlantic Bakery

January 12, 2016.    Just this morning, I noticed that our loaf bread is packed differently. So I take a look of it, and was surprised then amazed that Bicolandia’s famous bakery, Atlantic Bakery, is celebrating its 50th year this 2016. I grew up eating Atlantic Bakery’s breads. In fact, my father would usually asked me to buy hot ‘pandesal’ from Atlantic even up to his remaining years. And now that I have a family of my own, we prefer to have breads freshly baked by Atlantic served on our table. That’s how we patronize Atlantic.

Atlantic Bakery’s main store is still located at Dinaga St. near Naga City People’s Mall. Accessibility to consumers and tasty breads made them reach 50 years. They now have bakeries situated on strategic places where customers are present. I saw early market goers from far flung areas buy bulk of breads from Atlantic and sell them to their neighbors. They trusted the quality of breads that Atlantic offers and that keeps them from coming back day by day.

What do I like with my hot ‘pandesal’ Atlantic bread? I put some cheese spread and egg on it. Yummy!!! Actually, if I don’t have any to put on it, I just dipped it on my hot drinks and I am satisfied. Even my 5-year-old son loves it. He knows where Atlantic Bakery is and I know that he will pass it on to the next generation.

Kids’ Corner: Skippy and Me

As a mother, preparing a healthy snack for my 5-year-old son is hard. He has selective taste when it comes to sandwich fillings. He would rather choose cheese spreads than peanut butter. But when he got the chance to taste Skippy Peanut Butter, things went different. It was a bit surprising that he asked me to make more sandwiches for him. Good thing that my son, Dominic, does not have allergies over nuts. Still, I make it sure to observe him for possible appearance of rashes every time he eats foods with nuts. 

Peanut butter is said to be healthier than other fillings because it contains nutrients like;  vitamin E as antioxidant, magnesium for bone-building, potassium for muscle build-up, and vitamin B6 as immunity-booster. And for those who wants to lose weight, peanut butter has fiber and protein that makes you feel that you are still full thus reducing your crave on foods.

Dominic really enjoyed eating his sandwiches with Skippy Peanut Butter spread. I am happy because, there is now an addition to Dom’s list of sandwich spreads.

With this big jar of Skippy, I also used it in my cooking recipes like Caldereta and Kare-Kare. What I like with Skippy is that, it is not so sweet and it is very manageable to stir and scoop. As a mother, it is very important to learn how to cook pasta specially spaghetti for your kids. And not only that, you should know their tastes for pasta for them to like it. My son has a distinctive taste when it comes to food. He is actually my number 1 critic on the food that I cook. I just treat his reactions positively, I make it sure that I do it right next time.
